Why Foster?

One of the most rewarding experiences you could ever have in your life is making a lasting difference in the life of a child or youth.

Why Foster?

Becoming a foster parent is an opportunity to make a difference in the life of a child or youth, and a difference in your life and the life of your family. Fostering a child or youth can be one of the most rewarding experiences in an individual’s life. Foster parents can have a significant positive impact on the life of a child or youth by being available when children and youth are faced with having to live away from their families.

Fostering can also be demanding and present challenges. Foster parents are part of a team and when foster parents feel uncertain about a situation or require further information or support, the professional team will help. The Department of Children, Seniors and Social Development provides financial resources and services necessary to care for children and youth in care.

In most situations where protection of a child or youth is a concern, children and youth can remain with their families with the help of support services, but sometimes it is necessary for children and youth to come into care for a period of time. Being placed in a family environment with a foster family that can provide safety, nurturing, consistency and support can help children and youth cope with extremely difficult situations and with the feelings they often experience as a result.

I consider fostering to be one of the greatest privileges that I have had.
