Saying Good-bye “Where to from here?”

As carers you know you are in a child/young person’s life for a period a time. You keep them safe, nurture them, and watch them grow. When it comes time for the child/ren in your care to move on you may be left with feelings of sadness, loss, and grief. This session will look at how we can acknowledge and process these feelings and how to support healing of the foster families when children in care transition out of their home.

May 21, 2025 (7:00-9:00 pm NT)

Relationships – Why They Matter

Often children in care or those who have experienced adversity are viewed as “relationship resistant.” Sometimes because of their life experiences they are reluctant to trust and take a chance on getting hurt by emotionally investing in a relationship with a caring adult. Building healthy relationships is the cornerstone of work with children in care. We will explore why it is vital that you have positive relationships with the children in your care as well as the importance of teaching the children how to build relationships in other social contexts. We will discuss the impact of past and present relationships on the child’s self esteem, the importance of permanent connections and the function of relationship during transition.
